The Vivid Valentine scarf was originally designed by Vickie Howell for the musician (The Go-Gos, The Delphines) and author Kathy Valentine to wear in the book trailer for her memoir, All I Ever Wanted. Now you can make it and rock it your own bad self!

Variation 1 (two colors): 1 hank each of Mad Tosh Lite or Tosh Tweed (Merino Wool/420 yds), in MC and CC, or equivalent fingering weight yarn
Size U.S. 6/4 mm, circular needle, at least 24" long

Women Supporting Women
The design process behind the Vivid Valentine scarf began with a conversation between YarnYAY! founder Vickie Howell, Kathy Valentine, and book trailer director, Traci Goudie, all whom live in Austin, Texas and are driven to support and empower fellow women-creatives.
When choosing a yarn, Vickie knew she wanted to use one from a Texas-based, woman-owned company, so Mad Tosh (formerly Madeline Tosh, and located in Fort Worth) was a no-brainer. Vickie reached out to owner Laura Zander, who, like most girls alive in 80's was a Go-Gos fan and THRILLED to support Kathy's latest chapter.
After some back and forth with palette ideas, Kathy chose Tosh Tweed in Joshua Tree (to bring out her green eyes) and Onyx to compliment her rocker hair.
Inspired Design Elements
With yarn in hand, and while simultaneously reading All I Ever Wanted, Vickie cast-on with the intention to embed symbols of Kathy's journey within the scarf.
The Shape: Asymmetrical, beginning with few stitches and gradually growing to symbolize the growth of person and expansion of experience over the course of the years Kathy shares in her memoir.
The Stitches: There are 3 different stitch patterns in the Vivid Valentine scarf. The first, Garter Stitch, is intended to represent the bumpy road Kathy was brought up on. The next, Moss Stitch, reminds Vickie of stepping stones along the way of Kathy's journey. The last is an open-weave lace to represent the freedom she gained to have a powerful voice and create the career of Kathy's dreams.
The stitch pattern repeats are in 30s, to represent the age Kathy was where the memoir leaves off.
